A Revised BJH Foundation Website!
Most of the winter holidays have passed. Hopefully everyone had their fill of turkey at Thanksgiving, latkes at Hanukkah and enjoyable celebrations as we welcome in 2018.
Please visit www.bjhfoundation.org. The website is updated, fresh and easy to navigate. Make sure to bookmark the page as there will be continual updates with useful information. Spend a few minutes becoming friendly with the content. On the “Grant Recipient” page enjoy learning about all the programs over the years BJH Foundation has funded with grants. The “Library of Resources and Articles” page will constantly grow with the addition of useful information about many topics throughout the year.
Looking for grant funds for a nonprofit organization serving Jewish adults? The 2018 Grant application will be posted mid-January. Locally, Jewish Family Services, Beth David Synagogue, Temple Emanuel and Creative Aging Network-NC have benefited from BJH Foundation grants.
BJH Foundation puts its emphasis in 2 major areas for funding programs for Jewish adults; best practices and socialization programs.
Best practices programs include: Case Management with a psychologist or social worker, Congregational Nurse, Dementia or memory impairment enrichment, Group Day Care and Respite programs, New and Innovative programs.
Socialization programs include: Community Building, Education and furtherance of Jewish values, Dementia or memory impairment enrichment, Food Distribution, New and Innovative programs, Transportation.
We encourage you to let other nonprofit organizations working with the Jewish adult population know they could be eligible for a grant.
Many active older adults also find pleasure in exercise groups, social groups, civic groups etc. Involvement in the community and with others keeps the mind younger and the body nimble.
Some may want to further their education, learn a new hobby or just meet others. A great way to do this is by taking classes at a local community college or university. You may not be aware there is a statute in North Carolina allowing “Senior Citizens” to participate in classes tuition free at some institutions, especially community colleges. This is a great way to keep your mind, body and spirit young.
In order for BJH Foundation to continue to enhance life for Jewish adults we need feedback from you. We encourage all of you to think about the life you envision in your retirement years. What are some of the ways you may need assistance? What are some of your social and educational areas of interest? Where do you envision yourself living as you gracefully age? These are just a few of the questions the BJH Foundation Board tries to answer each year when awarding grants.
Of course it is important to note we always welcome contributions. Growing the balance of our funds invested with the Jewish Foundation of Greensboro allows greater amounts of money to be allocated each year as grant awards.
