Greensboro Jewish Family Services Hosts The Eastern Music Festival
Greensboro Jewish Family Services Chai Notes (a BJH Foundation grant recipient) program hosted students from the Eastern Music Festival for an afternoon concert at the Greensboro Jewish Federation.
The use of music therapy in the Chai Notes program is enjoyed by many older adults.
Although this particular performance was not specifically intended to be a music therapy session, it was hard not to reap some of the same benefits. Music lifts the spirit, brings smiles and movement to many when it is not anticipated.
Music is also a vital component in the aging process. Many studies have been written on the benefit of music on the mind, body and spirit. It improves the aging process in many ways including; slowing the heart rate, improving memory recall, reducing stress and anxiety, managing pain, creativity, as well as a number of other benefits.
It should be noted that positive results are also found when including adults suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease in music therapy programs. Long term memory remains active and familiar music has been shown to help calm the adult, including times when bathing, dressing and eating.
BJH Foundation funds programs helping improve lives of Jewish adults while connecting people with needed services. Grants awarded throughout North and South Carolina help Jewish adults, some with varying degrees of mental and or physical health issues.
